A Photographer’s Journey Through Rajasthan
Santa Fe Photography Workshops
October 06th - 17th, 2018
Rajasthan is perhaps the quintessential photographer's paradise: camel drivers with brilliant red turbans, entire neighborhoods painted deep blue and extravagantly ornate golden palaces and ancient, filigreed marble temples.
Join David Samuel Robbins for a ten-day photographic expedition, exploring India's most visually vibrant and culturally fascinating region.
Our in-depth Rajasthan itinerary includes explorations of the cities of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur, as well as small traditional ethnic villages far off the mainstream tourist path. Other highlights include the exquisite Jain temple of Ranakpur, the Amer Fort near Jaipur and the sprawling Chittorgarh and Mehrangarh fort complexes, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
David Samuel Robbins guides you in strategies to go beyond (and get below) Rajasthan’s gorgeous, exotic surfaces as you advance your skills in classic street photography, intimate environmental portraiture, and stylistic alternatives to the standard-issue travelogue.
In his instruction, David prioritizes aesthetic issues over purely technical considerations. He provides frequent informal demonstrations in the field and, through evening slide shows, shares the work of world-class documentary, fine art, and travel photographers. In open discussions, we evaluate this work to consider ways we can adapt some of these artists’ ideas and techniques to our own styles.
“The central challenge for today’s travel photographers is to develop a distinctive, personal style of visually representing their experiences,” states David, “And to somehow return home with images that transcend predictable clichés, having created a stylistically unique and consistent body of work that comments as much about the artist’s individuality as about their subject matter”.
